Repos

“10+1” Eleven young visual artists make a comment on 80s Greek cinema. Michalis Cacoyanis Foundation. Oct. 19. 2010 - Nov. 7. 2011
“Repos” is a film directed by Vasilis Vafeas in 1982.

REPOS (Appearance), Triptychon , Digital edited photos, Digital print, each 50 x 70 cm, 2010.
REPOS (Disappearance), Video with sound, loop 2 min 09 sec, 2010 .
23rd Panorama of european cinema

In the video „REPOS (Disappearance)“ Nikos Arvanitis edits the first 2 minutes of the film „REPOS“, directed by Vassilis Vafeas in 1982, and eliminates the dominant image of the Acropolis from the centre of the picture. How might Athens of 1980s, as presented in the film, function without the weight of the monument?
In the triptych „REPOS (Appearance)“ Nikos Arvanitis edits screen-shots from the film. He colors elements of the cinematographic architectural space giving it new substance and existence.
