Nikos Arvanitis, born 1979 in Athens/ GR, studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna/ A, at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Athens/ GR (Erasmus scholarship) and at the MFA course "Public Art and new artistic Strategies" at the Bauhaus University of Weimar/ DE with scholarships from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the A.S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. He won the first prize on the "ZeitGenosse Schiller" Competition fot public art,Weimar 2005, organized by Deutsches National Theater & Staatskappelle Weimar in co-operation with the Stiftung Weimarer Klassik und Kunstsammlungen and the Master of Fine Arts Programm of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. He is nominated for the "5th DESTE Prize", 2007, of the DESTE Foundation Centre for contemporary Art, Athens, Greece. Since 2005 he is a member of the artist Duo "Barking Dogs United". His Work has been exhibited in Austria, Greece, Iceland, Germany and Belgium. more Nikos Arvanitis is producing parallel to Fine Arts, electronic music. He started in Athens/ GR back in ´95 as bass player in several new wave bands. In ´97 he joined the new/ dark wave band "The Ophelia's Garden" and in ´98 formed the electronic duo "Mellow Decay" together with Fotis Germanos. In ´99 he moved to Vienna/ A, met Magnus Arnason and formed together with him the experimental music duo "m10+n69" and the project platform "Stromstrasse Produkt". His fist solo album material has been released as a co-operation album, titled "Digital Love", with Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Kluster/ Cluster, Harmonia) by the Viennese label "Plag Dich Nicht" in 2002. In winter 2004 he moved back to Athens where he worked with the dance company "Prosxima", composing music for the contemporary dance play "A_part". He is participating in the compilation "Synth pop avenue.gr vol.2", his music is being presented on the BBC Radio One show "One World" and he is working as a resident DJ at the Inoteka bar. In autumn ´04 he has moved to Weimar, Germany and in 2005/´06 he produced, together with NTS Randomizer, the radio show "The Wild Bunch" at Radio Lotte Weimar. more |
